A roadblock is set to take place on the Santa Cruz-Cochabamba highway (Ruta Nacional 4) starting this Wednesday, at the Yapacaní bridge. The measure is in response to the regional government’s failure to meet commitments to the Faja Norte area.
Delayed Road Construction: Last night, residents of the Faja Norte area in Yapacaní have issued a formal resolution announcing the blockade of the highway connecting Santa Cruz and Cochabamba. This action is a result of the regional government’s failure to fulfill its promises to the local community regarding the construction of a road segment.
Failed Negotiations: According to the residents, the government was supposed to post the bidding for the Faja Norte-Yapacaní road construction on the State Procurement System (Sicoes). This 60 km project, funded by Fonplata, has yet to be initiated.
Severino Gómez, president of the Faja Norte Road Committee, stated, “The departmental government was expected to publish the call for bids on Sicoes for this road project by August 16. However, they have not fulfilled this obligation, leading to the decision in an emergency assembly to start the roadblock on Wednesday, August 21.”
On Tuesday afternoon, representatives from the regional government met with the local community, but no agreement was reached. As a result, the road will be blocked at the Yapacaní bridge starting at 8:00 AM.
Travel Alert: Travelers are urged to be aware of the situation and plan their routes accordingly to avoid being caught in the blockade. The disruption is expected to disrupts travel between Santa Cruz and Cochabamba along Ruta Nacional 4.
