Mass Carbon Monoxide Poisoning at Uyuni Hostel

Encontrados

A terrifying incident unfolded in Uyuni on Tuesday morning where 15 people were poisoned with carbon monoxide at the “La Magia de Uyuni” hostel. At least three individuals were found unconscious. Of the fifteen, eight required hospitalization, including Potosí Assembly member Azucena Fuertes. As of yesterday, one person remains under medical care.

Gas Heaters Blamed for Near-Tragedy: Initial investigations point to gas heaters, designed for outdoor use, as the culprit behind the poisoning. The victims experienced symptoms such as dizziness and vomiting while gathered in the hostel’s lounge.

Call for Stricter Safety Regulations: Assembly member Fuertes, who has since been discharged from the hospital, has issued a strong call for heightened safety regulations in enclosed spaces within Uyuni and Potosí. She emphasized the potential for catastrophic consequences had the situation worsened, highlighting the importance of preventing such incidents in the future.
