The San Cristóbal Departmental Federation of Drivers in Oruro has announced a 24-hour strike set for Monday, July 29th, in response to ongoing diesel and gasoline shortages. The decision was reached during a meeting on Friday but a formal announcement was made late Saturday afternoon, as the federation expressed growing frustration with the government’s perceived inaction on the matter.

Discrepancy Between Reported and Actual Fuel Deliveries: The federation has raised concerns about the accuracy of fuel supply reports. Despite official claims of substantial fuel shipments, drivers report receiving significantly lower quantities at gas stations. Pablo Torrez Zabala, the Provincial Secretary of Conflicts, highlighted a discrepancy between reported deliveries of 5,000 to 10,000 liters and the actual amounts of 2,000 to 3,000 liters.

Call for Government Transparency and Dialogue: The federation is urging national authorities to be transparent about the fuel subsidy situation and its impact on the country. They have called for open dialogue with all stakeholders to find a sustainable solution to the fuel shortage crisis.

Travel Alert: The strike, which includes the participation of all affiliated trucker unions, is expected to significantly affect travel through Oruro with over 19 roadblocks across the city and might impact interdepartmental buses en route to the east and south of Bolivia.
