At least one person has died and 19 others were injured in a collision between a trailer and an interdepartmental bus operated by Urus. The accident occurred around 5:00 PM on Wednesday on the La Paz-Oruro highway near Belén Iquiaca in the Patacamaya municipality.
Preliminary Investigation Points to Human Error: Initial investigations suggest that the accident was caused by the trailer veering into the bus’s lane. The exact circumstances surrounding the collision are still under investigation. “In the initial assessment, it appears to be human error, where a possible maneuver mistake by the tractor-trailer, combined with excessive speed, may have caused this incident,” stated Edgar Cortez, the departmental commander of the La Paz Police.
Multiple Injuries and Critical Condition: Among the injured, nine are men and eight are women, including three minors. The severity of the injuries varies, with three individuals, including a child and a woman, listed in critical condition.
Medical Teams Respond to Emergency: Medical personnel at the Hospital Corazón de Jesús in the El Kenko area responded to the emergency, receiving 15 adults and four children.
One individual has unfortunately succumbed to their injuries. While some patients have been discharged, others continue to receive medical attention. The four children involved in the accident are being treated in the pediatric unit, with one child in critical condition. A woman with severe traumatic brain injuries, contusions, and brain lesions is scheduled for surgery.
