Starting at 8 AM today, urban transport unions in Potosi launched indefinite roadblocks, effectively crippling the city center. Frustration is mounting among Potosi residents who have been left stranded for two consecutive days due to service withdrawal by drivers demanding a fare increase.
Streets Blocked and Traffic Disrupted: Drivers from various transport unions and federations obstructed numerous streets with cables, ropes, and flags, significantly disrupting normal traffic flow. Arriving travelers at the Potosi Bus Terminal were forced to walk long distances with their luggage due to the lack of public transportation.
Potosi Residents Fight Back: In response to the blockades, residents near Plaza Simón Bolívar attempted to clear the streets to allow private vehicles and taxis to pass. Frustration boiled over as residents and transport workers clashed with physical altercations, shouting, and insults. Residents have announced a citywide march this Friday to clear all blocked streets.
Police Manage Clashes: Police were deployed to maintain order and prevent confrontations between residents and protesters. Colonel Limbert Choque reported at least 27 roadblock points established by unions demanding a fare hike from 1.50 to 2 bolivianos.
Access routes in and out of the city remain open despite the roadblocks. While some clashes were reported, no severe injuries have been documented.
