A Call to Tradition: “Our carved rock, the largest in the world, has served as a meeting place, a sacred temple,” declared Eustaquio Casilla, Mayor of Samaipata, at an event held at the Ministry of Culture this morning. “Our ancestors welcomed Lucero del Alba at this very site, and now we invite you to join us as we welcome the year 5,532.”
Archaeological Site: Located 269 kilometers from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, the Samaipata archaeological site encompasses two distinct areas. The hilltop section, believed to be the ceremonial center between the 14th and 16th centuries, boasts numerous rock carvings. The southern area housed administrative buildings and residences.
Marking the Season and Honoring Tradition: The festival coincides with the start of winter. For the Guarani culture, Lucero del Alba serves as a celebration to seek blessings from the heavens.
