A wildfire burning near Corumbá, Brazil, has crossed the border and begun to affect the Bolivian municipality of Puerto Quijarro. The dense smoke generated by the fire has caused respiratory problems, with children experiencing the most severe symptoms. This has forced the suspension of classes in the area.
The flames, which are already consuming vegetation and wildlife in Bolivian territory, are advancing uncontrollably due to climatic conditions, with changing winds and no rain forecast.
Wildfire Activity in the Pantanal: Brazilian authorities had reported 10 fires in Corumbá in the last 48 hours, while the Pantanal biome as a whole registered 23 fire outbreaks in the same period. So far this year, there have been 903 fire outbreaks in the Pantanal nature reserve.
Firefighters Battle Blaze Despite Difficult Conditions: A team of wildfire firefighters from Puerto Quijarro has been mobilized to collaborate with their Brazilian counterparts in fighting the fire. However, adverse conditions make firefighting efforts difficult.
