Truckers Begin Roadblocks at the Pisiga Border Crossing Exit – Update 15:55

The Cámara de Transporte Pesado Boliviano of Oruro has set up roadblocks at Puente Español, and on the exit to the Pisiga border crossing, blocking traffic around 06:00. This roadblock is not yet displayed on the road accessibility map from the ABC.

Citing the repeal of Supreme Decree 5146, the unavailability of dollars, and fuel supply concerns, the heavy transport sector is launching a two-day protest on Monday and Tuesday.

Travel Alert: In a statement, the leadership of Oruro announced that blockades would also be set up on the Oruro-La Paz highway, the Oruro-Potosí route, and the international roads to Pisiga and Tambo Quemado.

Early on Monday, heavy transport set up a blockade at the entrance to the Palmasola refinery in the southern part of Santa Cruz. More than a dozen trucks parked on the road used by tankers that supply various areas of the region. Juan Yujra, a leader of the heavy transport sector, indicated that the blockade at the site is “indefinite” and emphasized that the action is a response to the lack of fuel and dollars, as well as to press for a meeting with the government.

Police successfully removed the roadblock set up by truckers on the La Paz-Oruro highway near Apacheta, despite initial resistance attempts. The truckers briefly resumed the protest, but authorities maintained control and kept the main route unblocked as of this report.

Truckers, expressing their frustration through media outlets, claimed they were tear-gassed, some directly in the face. They also threatened to return with their trucks and potentially re-establish the blockade.

A member of the WhatsApp group for Traveling in Bolivia confirms that buses between La Paz and Copacabana are operational. The Road Accessibility Map from the ABC also indicates that there are no roadblocks and the route is fully clear.
