Oruro-Potosí Highway Blocked by Indigenous Protesters Despite Police Intervention

Tensions flared on the Oruro-Potosi highway (sector 60, Ruta Nacional 6) as a 150-officer police contingent used tear gas to disperse a protest by the Ayllu Chullpa indigenous community from Llallagua. However, the attempt to clear the road was unsuccessful, and the roadblocks remains in place.

Standoff Continues: Upon encountering the tear gas, some protesters responded by lighting bonfires and taking positions on nearby hills. From these elevated points, they continued throwing rocks onto the highway.

Travel Disruptions: The Llallagua bus terminal reports that interdepartmental buses are rerouting to avoid the roadblocks. Travel between Llallagua and Oruro is currently possible via alternative routes. However, transportation from Llallagua to other Bolivian departments is suspended.
