Cochabamba is facing a Dengue fever outbreak, with health officials reporting an average of 50 new cases identified daily. Three patients, including two children and a teenager, are currently hospitalized.
Surge in Cases Across Bolivia: The national picture is also concerning. Bolivia’s health ministry reports over 10,191 confirmed cases so far this year, with a significant week-over-week increase of 668 cases. Cochabamba is the epicenter, contributing over 500 of the new cases, followed by Tarija with 80. La Paz and Chuquisaca have also reported cases, despite the colder temperatures.
Toro Toro Outbreak: Last week Potosí’s health officials confirmed 27 locally transmitted cases of Dengue fever in Toro Toro. This is a significant increase from the typical 15-20 imported cases Potosí sees annually.
Seek Medical Attention, Avoid Self-Medication: Rubén Castillo, head of Epidemiology at Cochabamba’s Departmental Health Service (SEDES), urges the public to seek immediate medical attention for suspected Dengue cases. “Do not wait for your condition to worsen,” he emphasizes. “Visit your nearest health center to avoid complications.” Self-medication is also strongly discouraged.
