A Fiesta of Faith and Folklore: La Paz Prepares for Gran Poder

The vibrant Gran Poder festival bursts into color over the next two weekends in La Paz. Thousands of devotees and dancers will gather on Sunday to kick off the festivities with a promise ceremony to Señor Jesús del Gran Poder. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Asociación de Conjuntos Folclóricos del Gran Poder (ACFGP), the organization leading the celebrations.

Parade Details and Street Closures: The official Gran Poder celebration takes place on Saturday, May 25th, 2024.  On Sunday, before the main event, thousands of dancers from 75 fraternities will participate in a pre-entrada procession in their formal attire.

The parade route for the Gran Poder starts at the General Cemetery and continues through Max Paredes, Buenos Aires Avenue, Pedro de la Gasca, Vicente Ochoa Street, Antonio Gallardo (where the official  podium is located), and then winds down through Sebastian de Segurola, Sagarnaga, and Illampu streets, concluding at Plaza Equino. 

Be aware that streets along this route will be closed from 7:00 am to 11:00 pm on Sunday.

Safety Measures: The La Paz municipality is prioritizing the safety of participants and spectators. Medical points, ambulances, and a mobile office of the Defensoria de la Niñez y Adolescencia will be stationed along the route to address any emergencies.
