Evo Supporters Meet on Monday to Decide on Mobilizations

DTV

Following the Judicial Tribunal’s decision to invalidate the June 6th legislative session led by Andrónico Rodríguez, several organizations aligned with former president Evo Morales have declared a state of emergency. Congressman Ramiro Venegas (MAS Evista) announced that on Monday in Cochabamba, his caucus and social organizations will meet with Morales to potentially decide on mobilizations for the following week, demanding that President Luis Arce enact the laws approved in the assembly.

Yungas Coca Growers Aligned with Morales to Join Protests: Radio Fides reported this morning that coca growers from the Yungas aligned with Morales confirmed their participation in the protests. They, along with farmers and Chapare coca producers, are demanding that President Luis Arce enact Law 075 and other legislation proposed by Senator Rodríguez during the disputed session on June 10th.

Bartolina Sisa Faction Aligned with Morales Calls for Action: In a national assembly held in La Paz, the Bartolina Sisa faction aligned with Morales presented seven key demands to the national government. The confederation has threatened protests if these demands are not addressed.

Government Downplays Threat of Pro-Morales Mobilizations: The Bolivian government has downplayed the potential impact of the pressure measures threatened by the “evista” faction of the Movement for Socialism (MAS). Deputy Minister Juan Villca suggested these mobilizations would likely be concentrated in the Cochabamba tropics and primarily affect street vendors, transportation workers, miners, and factory workers.

Villca believes the protests will have limited reach and expressed hope that the public will reject any attempts by the pro-Morales faction of MAS to incite conflict and disrupt the country’s economic activity.
