Cochabamba braces for a 24-hour transportation strike and roadblocks tomorrow Tuesday, May 28th as the Federación Sindical del Autotransporte of Cochabamba demands a “fare leveling.”
The Federación Especial del Transporte Libre and the Asociación de Radio Móviles de Cochabamba will also join the protest.
Demands and Calls for Dialogue: Federation leader José Orellana confirmed the strike and urged Mayor Manfred Reyes Villa to open dialogue. He criticized statements from “radical sectors” and municipal authorities that hinder solutions.
He urged parents and education officials to “take precautions” in light of the announced strike.
Strike Starting at 05:00: The decision to initiate the strike was made during an emergency departmental meeting on May 25. During this session, Cochabamba transport workers resolved to begin the strike action at 05:00, marking the start of their extreme pressure measure.
Travel Alert: Travelers in Cochabamba are likely to face significant disruption due to the planned 24-hour transportation strike. With all public transport, including buses, taxis, and radio taxis potentially unavailable starting at 5:00 AM tomorrow (Tuesday, May 28th), getting around the city could pose a challenge.
This could particularly impact those arriving at or departing from Cochabamba’s airport or bus terminals and in traveling and back Toro Toro. Travelers are advised to check with their airlines or bus companies for any potential delays or cancellations caused by the strike.
