Indigenous communities from Jutun and Jachuy Aylly Jila are planning to disrupt travel once again by blocking the Potosi – Uyuni highway on Monday, according to Radio Fides’ morning broadcast.

Repeat Blockade: This action follows last Monday’s protest, where communities set up roadblocks near Puente San Juan and the Charcoyo stop, southwest of Potosí. Buses were eventually allowed to pass after police intervention, arriving late at the Uyuni station.

Expanded Demands: Irrigation Concerns Added: While the initial protest focused on job losses due to the closure of three hydroelectric plants, an indigenous representative expressed that they also fear the plant closures will negatively impact the irrigation of their fields.

72-Hour Ultimatum Issued: The communities held a vote this Friday, demanding the government’s attention within 72 hours. If there is no response from government officials, they will set up the roadblock. As of now, there have been no statements from government officials regarding the situation.
