Bolivian health officials have confirmed two deaths from yellow fever in the La Paz department this year, marking a return of the disease after a three-year absence.
Recent Fatalities: A 14-year-old minor was the most recent victim; the teenager died last weekend in the municipality of Caranavi.
The first case of the year was recorded at the beginning of May, and the deceased was a 21-year-old young man who worked in an area in northern La Paz. He was admitted on April 23 to the Santiago Segundo Hospital in the city of El Alto.
Vaccination Urged for Endemic Areas: In response to these cases, Deputy Minister of Promotion, Epidemiological Surveillance, and Traditional Medicine, Max Enriquez, urged people traveling to endemic areas to be vaccinated against yellow fever at least 10 days before their trip.
